We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Melissa Lem and Dr. Monika Dutt to the panel, with Dr. Edward Xie moderating the discussion.


Speaker Bios

Dr. Melissa Lem is a Vancouver family physician, President of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, and Co-Founder of PaRx, Canada’s national nature prescription program. She is an internationally recognized leader in the field of nature and health. She has also engaged in advocacy and policy work on a broad range of other issues, from extreme heat and hydraulic fracturing to sustainable health care and low-carbon transportation.

Monika Dutt (she/her) is a settler on Unama'ki (Cape Breton, NS). She is a Past Chair of Canadian Doctors for Medicare and works as a public health physician with the federal government. Monika has also been a Medical Officer of Health in NS, NL, ON and SK. She is doing her PhD in Health Policy at McMaster with a focus on labour standards and health and is a member of the Decent Work and Health Network. She has a fourteen year old son.

Edward Xie works as an emergency physician and Clinician Investigator at University Health Network and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. Edward is a current Board Director of Canadian Doctors for Medicare and past Director of Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment. Edward is currently pursuing a PhD in Health Systems Research with a focus on pharmacare and universal health coverage. He has ongoing research projects related to pharmacare, planetary health and health equity.
